SpaceX's Starlink Mini dish, which Elon Musk claims "will change the world," is now available to everyone in the US. This compact internet-from-space kit combines the dish and Wi-Fi router into a small, weatherproof package that is significantly smaller and uses less power than earlier Starlink kits.
The all-in-one dish, about the size of a laptop, can be powered directly by a USB-PD power source capable of 100W (20V/5A). This means it can operate for about an hour with a small power bank or several days when connected to a solar generator.
Originally, Starlink Mini was only an add-on for existing Residential subscribers in the US. Now, just weeks after its launch, it?s available to a wide range of vanlifers and digital nomads who want to stay connected wherever they are.
The Starlink Mini hardware is priced at $599 and is offered with both Regional and Mini Roam services. The Regional service costs $150 per month for unlimited portable data in North America, with an option to pay per GB for in-motion use. Mini Roam is $50 per month but limits users to 50GB of portable or in-motion data on the continent, with additional data priced per GB. Both services can be paused between adventures.
